Mark's Feed Store BBQ
Not sure if this is an official saying, but maybe it should be: “When in Kentucky, Eat BBQ”! When we stumbled upon Mark’s Feed Store BBQ on the Gluten Free Near Me app, we decided not to pass up the opportunity for some slowly smoked meats. Their tag-line reads “Friendly Folks Servin’ Famous Bar-B-Q” and it was just that. Our server, Allie, was knowledgeable of the menu and extremely personable. We enjoyed chatting with her about traveling and enjoying all the places the US of A has to offer.
Russ quickly spotted brisket on the menu and his eyes didn’t wander much after that. With a wide-variety of tempting sides, I choose the veggie platter which gave me the option of picking any 3 sides. I know, I know - sounds boring. But boring it was not! Taking Allie’s suggestion, I ended up with a great combination of BBQ Chicken Pasta Salad, Cornbread Salad, and the favorite being - Sweet “Fried” Corn on the Cob. They take a cob of corn and drop it in the deep frying allowing the sugar in the corn to caramelize and creating the perfect texture for the kernels. I’ve never seen or heard of deep-fried corn on the cob, but sign me up next time. It was a winner!
After finishing up our entrees, we found out that Mark’s Feed Store BBQ has Free Dessert Mondays. What do you know - it’s Monday! Lucky or what? After polishing off a Hot Fudge Sundae (Betsy) and Caramel Apple Sundae (Russ), we were stuffed silly. So you would think after the news of free dessert, our visit couldn’t get much better. WRONG! (in Donald’s best voice - couldn’t resist).
Since Allie knew this was our first visit to Mark’s Feed Store BBQ she let us know that they like to give their first time customers a bottle of their famous BBQ sauce to take home. WOW - super cool gesture! We selected Mark’s Red BBQ which is their take on the traditional tomato base sauce - smooth and tangy with a hint of honey. As a ex-bakery owner, I know this could be seen as a marketing technique to keep you buying their sauce. But regardless of the reason, I’m totally impressed and definitely a happy customer. BRAVO Mark’s Feed Store BBQ. From the area or not, you will be seeing us again.
