Mom's Coffee Pot & Mr. G's Ice Cream
After arriving at Little Drummer Boy Campground in Gettysburg yesterday, we awoke this morning with an urge for some iced coffee! After our typical search for gluten free goodies, we landed upon some great reviews for Mom’s Coffee Pot in downtown Gettysburg. We parked in the square and walked a block over to Mom’s Coffee Pot. It was truly a genuine local experience and worth the time to just relax over some coffee. The seating is communal with just 2 long tables where you can converse with the other customers over a cup of brew and the local newspaper. Mom literally serves you the coffee and breakfast right to your table. Obviously their gluten-free menu is what brought us there and Mom even had a dedicated gluten-free kitchen upstairs. Russ & I both had egg square sandwiches that were served on a gluten-free muffin. They were tasty and unique with an egg square (almost like egg casserole) rather than just a typical fried egg. Our iced coffee drinks were served beautifully in glass mugs, but were not overly chilled. As an ice fanatic, I miss ice when it is not served in my drinks. However, the iced turtle I ordered was brimming with yummy caramel and chocolate flavor and topped with homemade whipped cream! A little sweet for my liking, but still a great start to a morning with a little local flare and tasty breakfast.
In the evening, Russ’ sister Annette & husband Mike met us for dinner in Gettysburg. We enjoyed some mexican food at their favorite restaurant in town. Before calling it a night, ice cream was on the agenda. Mike & Annette said Mr. G’s was a must for good ice cream in Gettysburg. It didn’t take long for me to land on a scoop of homemade Cookies N’ Cream. Russ debated about a coffee flavor or two, but stepped up to the plate and ordered a cup of Almond Joy. It is made in house and you can most certainly tell the difference. Can you say creamy goodness?? Fast service and a lovely atmosphere with either indoor or outdoor patio-type seating. Thanks for sharing Mr. G’s ice cream with us, Mike & Annette!
