Restaurant Review: Not Your Average Joe's
I know this is shocking, but we have another restaurant review. I know often our reviews are of local, delicious, hole in the wall places that you have to be in the exact spot we are to try them out. But Not Your Average Joe’s is a small-scale chain restaurant with less than 30 locations across the country (most in the Northeast region of the US). However after great reviews on the Find Me GF app, we had to pay a visit since we were less than 30 minutes from their Glen Mills location.
We were warmly welcomed by the hostess and were immediately taken to a booth in the modern industrial dining room with rough surfaces, steel structures, and wooden planks. Loved the look. We were asked if we wanted a gluten free menu before even being seated - “yes, please” answered Russ.
Our server Robert greeted us with a super big smile and get-to-know-ya personality. He was great! He hooked us up with some housemate focaccia for me and some gluten-free caramelized onion bread for Russ. Win-win for both of us. The bread was complimented perfectly with their olive oil dipping sauce with the perfect combination of chopped garlic, crushed red pepper, & romano/parmesan cheese. Delightful.
It took us a long time to read over our options on menu, including both their everyday selections and seasonal specials. We started off with some deviled eggs topped with crushed potato chips which added good texture. Russ decided on some breaded haddock with corn succotash & mashed taters. I landed on the Thai Noodle Chicken Salad. Russ enjoyed getting to have something that actually had breading - unusual for him. His corn succotash was really, really tasty. The perfect combination of seasonal sweet corn, cherry tomatoes, and a creamy dressing. Both of our meals were very good, but we started off with way too much bread and deviled eggs, so the majority of our meals got packed into doggy bags. Leftovers for the win! As stuffed as we were, we had heard too many good things about their gluten free carrot cake, so we asked Robert to pack up a slice of that to go. We had a few bites last evening and it was moist and spicy with cream cheese frosting, just like carrot cake was created to be. Looking forward to eating a few bites this evening too.
And check out this super cute way they bring you the receipt -- a wooden cutting board. The iPod is loaded and ready for a great review to be left. While I'm sure it is loaded and ready for a bad review to be left too (but hopefully you won't find that necessary)! But seriously - it is cute and a easy added touch that takes it up a notch!
We would definitely return to Not Your Average Joe’s again in the future. It would be a great place to go with a large group as there is definitely something for everyone. Being a scratch kitchen, our waiter said you could make absolutely any changes/substitutes for anything on the menu. We recommend you ask for Robert - he was a great waiter!
