A Visit to my old Stomping Ground
When I found out our travels were going to take us to Indiana, it brought back so many good memories of the years I spent in that state. I knew on this trip I wouldn’t be able to get to visit with everyone I wanted to, but there will be plenty of more trips for more fun with friends here. However, when I found out i was only about 30 minutes from Bear Lake Camp where a worked as a camp counselor during my summer breaks of college, makingtrip there was a must. It was a lovely drive to BLC from Shipshewana. When I pulled up to the camp, I was so excited about being back for a visit. It had been 9 years since I had been there - way too long without a visit. I was warmly greeted by Sally & Tim Tomcik and shortly after by the entire Harlan clan. Those kids surely grew up quick - I guess it has been 9 years. My oh my time flies - makes me feel old! Bear hug Chad and has wife Dawn were there as well as Jennifer. Janette took me around to see all the changes and improvements that have been taking place in the passing years. The new gym/activitiy center was impressive and is serving as a wonderful multi-purpose area.
The afternoon was spent sitting on the porch of the dining hall overlooking the lake and giant slip & slide the campers were enjoying. I remember days as an often tired, worn-down counselor wishing I could spend time sitting in the rockers on that porch. I got to do just that while catching up and reminiscing and Janette, Monty, Sally, & Tim. What a blessing it was - so good for the soul.
