Sights & Tastes of Shipshewana
We arrived at Shipshewana Campground South on Friday evening and decided to do a little exploring around the area. It ended up being more a food-themed tour - okay, maybe we left the campground a little hungry! We certainly didn’t return that way. Our first stop was the old Davis Mercantile building and all the lovely shops along that street. We had fun wandering in and out checking out creative artwork and impressive furniture design. We stumbled upon JoJo’s Pretzels which featured gluten free soft pretzels that were out of this world! You certainly wouldn’t have guessed it was gluten free! But, paired with Amish-style peanut butter it could have been cardboard and still been absolutely edible. I’m kind of kicking myself that we didn’t get any to put in the freezer. They really were delicious. We enjoyed our pretzel and iced coffee while playing a few rounds of Tic-Tac-Toe. It was the super cool board that got us interested. We both won a couple rounds and realized the game didn’t require as much strategy to win as we had thought it did as kids!
We walked through several stores and Russ has come to the conclusion that he indeed needs to add a Tilley hat to his repertoire. He just missed asking for one in time for his 1/2 birthday this month. Guess that means its time to write to Santa Claus - only 5 more months, honey!
Next up a trip to Rise & Roll which we had a bunch of people tell us was a must-stop in the area. We also had saw they were listed on our GF Near Me app, so it got added to the list quickly. We wandered around enjoying the sights of all the Amish food and drooling over the smells those fresh baked items produced! We left with some goodies, my favorite being the cashew brittle. Yum! It’s certainly worth a visit if you are in town. I didn’t get a chance to taste a donut (sold out!), but they definitely came highly recommended so get there early!
Before heading back to the campground, we strolled the aisles at Yoder Meat & Cheese Company and E & S Sales. We picked up some additional items to enjoy during our stay this week. It’s going to be a yummy one.
UPDATE - Russ would like to highly recommend purchasing steaks from Yoder Meat & Cheese Company. The ribeye was melt in your mouth tasty! Two taste buds up, I mean thumbs up!
