Visiting Family in VA
Lucky for us, our drive back from our “vacation” in Florida to Bethpage Camp Resort in Urbanna, VA took us right through Richmond, VA. No, it’s not a big deal that I briefly lived and worked in Richmond during my work career, but it’s more important that my younger (Baby!) brother Rick and his wife Karen live in Richmond. Rick and Karen have been residents of Richmond for 10+ years and seem to really like it there. They live in a great “old” house in the city, so it’s always fun to stop there when we can.
We arrived shortly after lunch on the 4th of July. We were the 3rd consecutive overnight guests Rick and Karen had to deal with. You see, a lot of the “Herd” has to pass through Richmond to get home to Pennsylvania!
After quickly catching up with them, we headed into a cool part of the city to get a bite to eat. We ended up at The Daily Kitchen and Bar. Thanks Rick and Karen for doing the research so we could go to a gluten-free friendly restaurant. The menu was very clearly labeled with things like:
- GF - Gluten Free
- GFO - Gluten Free Option
- V - Vegan
- VO - Vegan Option
- N - Contains Nut
- PO - Paleo Option
We all had great food (Did I mention that I got to have french fries?) and enjoyed sitting and chatting with Rick and Karen. After food, we did the right thing and went for a walk through the City Park behind their house. Good exercise, great environment!
We were up early the next morning to see Rick off to work, and get back to pick up our “home” at Bethpage Camp Resort to continue on our journey. We both commented that it was good to be “home”! Even though our home has wheels and we move around a lot!
