Celebrating Our 3rd NOMADiversary!

MAY 19, 2019: No matter how you count it, exactly three years ago today, we departed on this adventure that is now our life. We sold our house outside of Philadelphia, packed all our belongings into our 5th wheel, and officially hit the road as full-time RVers. So today we celebrate our 3rd NOMADiversary. It is always fun to take a moment and look back at all we have done and seen while trying to live out our blog name of See Simple Love, to SEE the country, to live a SIMPLE life, and to LOVE each other.
YEAR THREE started out low-key in Texas where we had already been for about 6 months. Many lazy days were spent and enjoyed on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. We did take the occasional road trip and were able to enjoy the cities of Galveston, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Houston and Austin.
On the subject of low-key and lazy, many days of YEAR THREE were spent lying around. Some in the beautiful pool at Texas Lakeside RV Resort and others on our favorite YEAR THREE purchase of a Purple Mattress.
YEAR THREE was filled with opportunities to spend time with family, starting with a trip to PA to celebrate our niece Lexi’s college graduation. Betsy’s parents, sister and nephew Ben came to visit us at different times and we were able to show them a bit of the Lone Star state and the Land of Enchantment. Thanksgiving and Christmas of our YEAR THREE were both spent with family which was a rare treat - so thankful for those times.
Of all the years, and there have been several, YEAR THREE was a bad one for the Big Tow’er and as a result also for our bank account. I like to say he lost his brains and became a little like the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz. The mechanic liked to call it the Engine Control Module (ECM), but for the rest of us, the Big Tow’er broke his brain. We kinda like him, so a new brain (or ECM if you prefer) it was! He made a full recovery and finished YEAR THREE by safely getting us cross-country from Texas to New Mexico and then New Mexico to New Jersey. Charlie the RV didn’t lose his brain, but he did need to see an RV doctor in YEAR THREE. Let’s hope year four has none of this (fingers crossed).
YEAR THREE brought big thrills, such as our first ever hot air balloon ride, hiking in the Sandia mountains and exploring Carlsbad Caverns. While YEAR THREE started out pretty low-key, we did move from Texas to New Mexico and started a new workamping job in Albuquerque. I would say, we stayed pretty busy as both tax preparers, cuisine samplers and adventurers during our time there.
But, YEAR THREE also brought big loss. On April 10, 2019, we lost our travel inspiration, a loving father and a wonderful father-in-law. So despite YEAR THREE bringing much joy, it brought even more heartache. We are forever grateful for his impact on both of our lives and are thankful he is at peace and reunited with the love of his life. We miss him so much.
Just like a rollercoaster, YEAR THREE brought us a bit of everything — the ups & the downs, the stomach thrills & the sinking feeling, the smooth ride & the rocky drops. As usual we put it in numbers, so here it goes YEAR THREE (and others) in numbers . . .
We hope you continue to enjoy our musings as we begin the next 365 days. As we blog, we hope to not only create a journal of memories, but provide first hand experience to those interested in full-time RVing, and inspiring others to follow their dreams. Buckle Up & Hold on Tight as we continue the thrilling & sometimes bumpy ride of our life on wheels.
