Why Did We Quit Blogging?

Why Did We Quit Blogging?

You may or (may not) have noticed, we have been AWOL for awhile. The definition of AWOL is “Absent from one’s post but without intent to desert.” Has it been intentional? Do we have a reason we haven’t published a post in over a year? I don’t think. This might require some more thought…

Why did we quit? It wasn’t dramatic. We didn’t delete the blog in a fit of rage or send an email telling everyone we were never ever posting again. We just simply walked away and let the blog go stale. As we sat around (6 feet apart), we decided we could blame it on not having enough time or lack of motivation or fear and all might have been involved.

TIME: Right now with what is going on in the world, we’ve been given the gift of lots of extra time! We no longer have the excuse to avoid doing things we told ourselves we were avoiding because we didn’t have the time to do it. Whether this was blogging, learning a new skill or cleaning out the closet. We’ve definitely got the time, so we will be spending a little more of it here, while also still getting in daily bike rides, reading in our gravity chairs and I suppose while we are at it cleaning out the closet.

LACK OF MOTIVATION: Maybe we lost touch with the why? We looked back to remember why we started this blog. We started this blog as a way to share our journey in hope to inspire others to follow their dreams & create their own adventures. We started this blog to help us stay creative. We started this blog to share with our friends and family our whereabouts and our “you did what?” moments with them. We started this blog to give us something to look back upon when we wonder if we made the right decision to sell everything and to live in our RV fulltime. In just these few sentences, we are renewed with motivation to continue writing and more frequently than once a year! Sometimes, we just need reminded of our why!

FEAR: And while the first two probably have some impact on why we haven’t shared our monthly musings on our page here, a lot of it boils down to fear or that feeling of “you can’t do this”. Fear of not having anything that is truly “blog-worthy” to write about. Fear of not being good enough. In the blogging world, it is not enough to be good with words, you have to be a good photographer, a SEO expert, etc. Sometimes that can be overwhelming. We get the idea in our heads, that if we can’t be bothered to do everything perfectly or properly, then why are we doing it at all. Those inner voices sure can be annoying, sometimes streaming YouTube can’t even shut ‘em up! Well due to an abundance of extra time at home (yes, we are looking at you COVID-19) and a bigger dose of motivation by remembering why we decided to blog in the first place, it is time to kick the fear of perfection and inadequacy to the curb. Thankfully trash pick up is daily at this campground, so this fear garbage will be gone before we know it.

If you are still following along, you may be thinking “Hey There - enough with your whining about blogging. No one is forcing you to do it.” You are absolutely correct, the thing is, we’ve actually missed it. The last four years, we have been on an exciting journey, one we should be documenting as much for us as for you. Something to look back upon, but also something to share with those we love (that’s you)! It feels good to be back. See you soon!
